How many times have you danced and didn’t get the reaction you expected? How many times have you looked at the video of your performance and there was something missing in your look? Or, how many times have you envisioned a look and your dance and costuming didn’t reflect it? They are all valid questions and sometimes, they are the last thing a dancer thinks about when he or she performs! Your dance is what you give to your audience. It is the most important statement that you can make. Sometimes, it’s not the dance that touches people --- it’s the look of exoticness or the look of excitement. You and your costume must become “one.” How do you do that on your budget or how do you make the dance reflect that? This is what a costume consultant does. I take a look at the style of dance that you want to do (even if it’s improvisational) --- costumes matter. Just throwing any old thing on to dance in may work sometimes --- but it will not work all the time. Dancers garner reputations on their look and their style. You don’t have to be cookie-cutter dancer. You are unique -- why not possess that uniqueness!! If your dance involves swaying and over-the-top arm movement, you need material that will exaggerate that point. Textures, colors, movement of material is just as essential to a dance as the dance itself. Why work twice as hard in a skirt made for “butt thumping” and not graceful “swaying.” Dancers make this mistake over and over again. Your favorite style of costuming does not go with every kind of dance that you will do. Oh you know the basics, tunic top for ethic, circle skirt for Romy, or sometimes Turkish but what about your colors, your movement, your feet, your arms? Let me give you tips on shopping for those right materials. I am available in my area only to accompany you in finding just the right material for that costume.
